What is confirmed

Finance Division published the Petroleum Prices Stabilization Fund in June 2026. Petroleum Pricing Committee statements later said stabilization measures should operate under a rules-based framework with clearly defined funding and intervention conditions.

How it differs from targeted support

The fund is a pricing-system mechanism. It is not the same thing as targeted assistance delivered to selected groups such as two-wheelers, public-transport users or small farmers. Those targeted measures work at the beneficiary level; stabilization tools work at the market or pricing level.

Connection to the March 2026 price shock

Earlier in the year, the government used the Prime Minister's Austerity Fund to settle Price Differential Claims created by its decision to cushion consumers from higher international oil prices. That was a separate shock-response mechanism. The later stabilization framework is intended to make future interventions more rules based.
